DEEP DARK: Page 4-5 and 46-47 spreads
There are two double-page scenes in the book.

Pages 4/5: Sinking bucket

Pages 46/47: Moonlight finale
When I first told the story to my nieces, I wanted to create a connection between them and the story’s characters. I sent some familiar things down into the deep dark and made them important to the story.

I bring the story back to the surface again at the end, where we see Alyssa and her mother, returned to the same beach a year later. Hatch stares at the moon and stars, Alyssa sees the glowing blue water created by Hatch and the glowing ones and readers are left with a more expansive view yet, where we see beauty in everything, undiminished by fear.
